Deek Debeery and I belonged to the first independent black record company owners back in 1973. I was called SIRMA  (small independent record manufactures association) The founders were myself Paul Kyser , Jimmy Dockett, George Kerr, Deek Debeery, Gus from Hittsville USA and others.

Deek was also founder and producer of the group Creative Funk. Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers did shows with Creative Funk back in the early 70s

Sorry to hear of Deeks passing.

I'm glad I was able to see him a couple of times within the last year or two. Your testimonial party and Chester's mother's funeral. I had to stop and take a minute to say a prayer after reading this today. It's sad none us were able to say our good bye's. He will truly be missed.

Thanks Kirby for keeping me up with what's going on.

I took him off the Transit Authority where he was a bus driver..and brought him to Kirby Carmichael. I introduced him to Henry Allen and showed him about the game that we both loved and enjoyed.  So..so..sorry to  hear about his departure.

Deek....If I had known, I would have been there! Who could forget the visits with the Datsun Z with a million miles on the odometer! If my memory serves me, the first record I got from deek was "Ready Made Family' by Diane Jenkins on the "Creative Funk" label. You know I still have a copy of it!

Wow! I can't believe Deek is gone...it seems like we just saw him at Jimmy's home going service-
He will really be missed!

When I received the call from Kirby that Deek had passed, I felt an instant emptiness.......again. The same feeling you get when you lose a close relative or an old friend that shared some of the same memories of your youth and personal growth. Deek had been on my mind and I wanted to take a road trip to Carolina to surprise him. Damm, again I didn't make the call or follow through. Again I realize that Life can no longer be to busy for me not to call those who matter. I'm miss the old Radio days of our youth and I'm gonna miss another brother who was a real brother and gentleman. Always a smile, always pleasant and always there to make sure you had what you need to win.....the Hits and plenty of giveaways.  I miss you Deek. Tell Jimmy, Woody and Berry that they are not forgotten and thanks for the memories.
