Isn't it good to know that the broadcast
superpower of America fires their hosts like this? Not to worry, Clear
Channel knows what it's doing, profits over people.

Kirby will be missed by all. I work alot
of late night and early morning hours and i will truly miss hearing
his voice and talking to him in the early morning hours. It is sad
that Q94 got rid of one of richmonds "oldschool" DJs. We will all miss
that voice, but knowing Kirby the way I do "he'll be back". Shawn

Richmond lost a legend...I had the
pleasure of working with Kirby from 1988 - 1995 and what a pleasure.
He's a great friend and a great man. It's a shame the way Radio, Clear
Channel as a prime example, works and what a shame. My best to him.
Good article. I look forward to hearing more from Kirby in the future.

Sir: I feel for Kirby and I know the
feeling! Clear Channel has no feelings for the personality of the
station, just the profit margin! The h--- with the listeners, just get
through the night as cheaply as possible! I worked for WJJS radio in
Lynchburg, Va. for 30 yes, thirty years, and they came to me and told
me that I was no longer needed in 1998. Now watch what I tell you...as
soon as the stations overnight start messing up with no-one there to
correct them, they are going to hire cheap!!

If you think of radio as less of a
business and more of an art, if you consider the people you work with
more family than co-workers, it makes sense that such a loyal
personality would be given a chance to ride off into the sunset with a
final broadcast and a graceful goodbye. But for years now Radio has
been a business with employee decisions made by the book. Kirby is a
singular character though, and those who managed him would have shown
more class to give the man one last night on the air.
