Former Q94 Jock's Speak Out.

Just heard that Q94's all night show caved in to the pressure of modern
day economics and went automated. Leaving Richmond's last living radio
legend out of work. Kirby Carmichael.

Hang Tuff Kirb. Most of the time these things work out for the better.

I remmber listening to you on 990am WANT when I lived in the Dorm at
Va. Union Univ.

22 years holdin down all nights.!!!   Shades of Loose Dean ,  not too mention Big John TRUCK 'em UP.

A big HOT DAMN for the Tall Man of Soul , Kirby Carmichael.!!!!

Even those of us who weren't regular WANT listeners knew Kirby Carmichael.  He really is a legend.  And I'm sure Tim is right that for him this will work out for the better.

Somebody smart will pick up Kirby. He can make all the money he wants picking up a 4-5 hour weekend gig .. working a 50% of the income deal .. and making more money than before!
Tell the pricks "thank you" Kirby .. and enjoy your just rewards!

Clear Channel strikes again! YOU CAN'T DOWNSIZE THE
  "TALL MAN OF SOUL!"

Check this out: The Q's been in existence 34 years. Kirb
was there for 22. Counting the three + years I was on the
overnight (1980-84), that shift had been held down by a
dude with the initials "KC" for just over 25 of those 34
  years!

Granted, I had just a small piece of that dominance, but
it was DOMINANCE just the same! KIRB, YOU'RE STILL
  THE BEST!

   kc

Clear Channel   just paving the way for xm and Sirrus.....

maybe there's a slot on xm for you Kirb, move on to nationwide(and Canada) dominance!

Oh my gawd. I'm sure this will be a hot topic at dinner tonight. I'll
get the scoop and report back.

Kirby and I did remotes together sometimes when he worked at WANT. I
was working at WTVR and we would end up at some of the same spots -
notably Richmond Chrysler Plymouth. I was a mere youth and was always
in awe of the Kirb. I know he's going to end up smokin' someplace.

Lessee, he's a bit older than me, and been at Q for 22 years which
means he was headed towards retirement. I guess CC decided that they
didn't want to pay out all those benefits to a retiree so . . . . .

Oh well, hope I'm wrong - I probably am.

I'm so sorry Kirby's loyalty was rewarded this way.
He'll be better off, but it still sucks.

What's up with "A Legend's Run?"  Is it, what i think it is?

Is Kirby no longer at "Q!?"

kirb,

You forgot the time we went flying because you wanted to try your new C.B. radio at 3,000 feet.   When you plugged in the power cord , smoke started coming out of the cigarette lighter.

It wasn't funny til we got back on the ground. They never told me in flight school the electrical system in a Cessna is different.

That trip to New Jersey to see your Mom was the best though. Not only did we have a rear end fender bender, but we almost got arrested. It was late when we got to the airport for the return trip to Richmond. The airport was closed and the cops showed up and didn't believe I'm   a Pilot.  They were cool after I showed them my credentials. The collision proved once again, the most dangerous part of flying is driving to the airport.

Ah, memories.  The way we were
tim

Kirb,

The man who taught me to love the ones built like a Bonneville!!!!!

And introduced me to my 1st fried baloney sandwich.
The Q was a Richmond legend, for me working there was a double bonus, I was on the air at a Richmond legend, and working with one "the Kirb"

It's been To many years since then my brother, and I think of you often.

When you left the building, I hope you turned the lights out.....cause it just at "THE Q" anymore.
