We loved  "Pookie Hudson and the Spaniels".  We used to sing their songs when we were amatuers.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fans.

My name is Bruce D. Gregory, I am the son of Gerald Davis 'Bounce' Gregory of the original Spaniels. A friend e-mailed me pictures of the home going celebration of James ' Pookie' Hudson on your web site. Regretfully, I was not able to attend the funeral. I would like to leave a message on your web site for the family if I may. I would like to say to them: May your family derive some measure of comfort in knowing that we share a deep and personal sorrow in the loss of a pioneer in the Doo-Wopp music industry. May God bless you and keep you in your time of sorrow. Bruce D. Gregory, son of Gerald Davis 'Bounce' Gregory, of the original Spaniels.

My name is Dorothy Lee Michael, I now reside in Adelphi Maryland.  My brother, Hardy B. Michael (deceased) and I fell in love with Pookie and the Spaniels when one of his first recordings "Everyone's Laughing" became popular. As teenagers growing up in the South, we knew every word to the song.  It was just the two of us siblings ... only 13 months apart ... who shared the life and legacy of Pookie, Gene Chandler, Smokey Robinson, Sam Cooke and many others

My brother, known as H.B. would call me to tell me about the exciting times he had when he went to Pookie's live performances when he moved to D.C.  I have been playing "Everyone's Laughing" in my brother's memory ever since Pookie's death.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Ed Hines, who was managing the District's own local group "The Velons."  At their live performances, I met for the first time, Pookie Hudson along with the Orioles and others.  I purchased Pookie's 40th Anniversary CD and discovered the song "Peace of Mind."  I told everyone about it and I have been playing it too as another one of my greatest favorites among his collection of songs.

I wish my brother were here so I could share the photos of Pookie's homegoing with him.  Although I know he is here with me and us in spirit as we celebrate Pookie's life, I can imagine what a time the two of them must be having now in heaven as they both are singing "Everyone's Laughing" because they both now have a "Peace of Mind."

Pookie, you will forever be in my heart.  May you rest in peace.

Shared Love,
Dot & H.B.
